Whether you’re a student, a CEO or a stay at home mum, it is crucial to have your days, weeks and months organised and planned out. Being sufficiently organised is essential for productivity and success, but also so important for your mental health. If you run around like a headless chicken, unsure of where you need to be, what you need to do, and by what time, that’s going to cause significant stress and anxiety for you and could lead to things like burnout.

In this post, I’ll be sharing the strategies and tools that I use to organise my life and plan out my short term and long term goals, meaning I can seamlessly run my business and achieve success.

Planner

I use my planner to organise my week – kind of like a ‘week at a glance’ set up. I use it for purely business related events such as –

  • My blog schedule and what I’ll be posting.
  • Modules I have to complete for the course I’m studying.
  • Instagram posts that need to be uploaded on certain days.

I like to use this planner for my tasks which are to do with my work, which is why I use it to schedule my blog posts. Writing and pushing live 3 blogs a week, every Monday, Wednesday and Friday is something that has to be done each week, and that can’t really be moved or adapted. Similarly, with Instagram content, some posts have to be uploaded on specific days, for example some brands like you to post on a day a product is launching. This is another pretty unmovable event to do with my work, so it’ll go in the planner. When I begin my coaching practice later this year, this is where I will jot in appointments for clients.

Desk Planner

Whereas my previous planner was ‘week to view’, my desk planner works on a ‘day to view’ basis. Here, I can schedule my day by the hour, which allows me to put in more specific details such as –

  • Practice yoga.
  • Post parcel.
  • Pick up groceries.
  • Make dinner.

Seeing exactly what you need to do in a day, by hourly and half hourly increments is great for productivity. It allows me to see exactly where I need to be at a certain time. I really like having structure to my day and having a clear idea of what tasks I need to complete, whether it’s important appointments or mundane things such as tidying my desk. Having a clear structure is a must in terms of getting your life together and achieving your goals – instead, you wake up and meander through the day without any purpose.

Wall Calendar

I use this to see life at a ‘month to view’. However, this is probably my least used tool, as I only use it for very specific, certain events such as –

  • Birthdays.
  • Pre-planned events (weddings etc.)
  • Certain appointments.

As you can see, all of the events above are rigid – they will happen on the specific days and are not adaptable. These are the ‘absolutely must do’ events, and ones that I most certainly can’t forget. Therefore, having them on my wall and seeing them constantly means that I probably won’t forget them and i can plan for them accordingly, if needed. This isn’t somewhere I’d put personal things as obviously it’s out in plain sight, but it gives a good idea of how busy your month will be.

Notebook

I use my notebook ALL THE TIME. It is so important for writing miscellaneous things out in, such as –

  • Blog post ideas.
  • Photoshoot locations.
  • Shopping lists.
  • Packing lists.

Having somewhere where you can write out all your ideas and goals is a great way to actually manifest them into your life. It is said that if you actually write out what you want to achieve, you have a better chance of actually being successful. personally, i just love the act of writing compared to using the Notes app or something similar. It makes me feel more creative, which helps when brainstorming ideas for my blog and business. I also feel like a notebook is less formal than a planner or calendar, and you’re free to scribble ideas and notes in whatever form you desire.

Whiteboard Planner

This is probably my favourite tool for planning my life because it’s so fun! (Even as an adult!) I use it to write out –

  • Social events (low key events, not big occasions).
  • Blog schedule.
  • Pinterest schedule.
  • Modules to complete for my studies.

I write out 1-3 tasks on my whiteboard each day, and generally they aren’t ‘tasks’ as such, but actually more to do with my down time and personal things. If I’m seeing a friend, or having date night with my boyfriend, it will go on the whiteboard. Sometimes I put work related content on too, such as ‘write blog post’ or ‘work on module’ but as you can see, it tends to be a more general statement than what I would put in my planner, where I would write specifically what blog I was writing etc.

So that’s how I organise my life! Do let me know your favourite ways to organise in the comments as I LOVE finding new ways to plan and organise!
