When we hear the words ‘self care’, most people immediately envision sitting in a bubble bath wearing a face mask. Even though there are lots of other ways to practice self care (check out my 60 Summer Self Care Activities post), having an at home spa night can be a good way of feeling like you are treating yourself without spending money on an actual spa visit.

In this post, I’ll be sharing my favourite products for an at home spa night that you can use next time you have a pamper evening.

Magnesium Salts

Taking a bath in itself is one of the most well known ways of de-stressing. But adding epsom/himalayan pink/dead sea salts, as well as perhaps an essential oil such as lavender, can maximise your relaxation even further. Taking a bath can be a great way to relax and get in the mood for sleep, and magnesium is known for relaxing the nervous system and improving symptoms of stress and anxiety. Create a relaxing environment by lighting candles, dimming the lights and playing relaxing nature sounds or meditation music.

Face Mask

Doing a face mask is probably what most people think of when someone uses the words ‘self care’. This is probably because most of use don’t do them too regularly so it feels very special when we do, and it feels like you’re really taking care of yourself by taking care of your skin. Moreover, when you leave the mask to set for 15-20 minutes, it gives you some time to yourself. My favourite face mask is Charlotte Tilbury’s Goddess Skin Clay Mask, although you can check out my Natural Beauty Recipes post to find out how to make your own mask at home!

Cleanse

The first step in my skin care routine is to cleanse my face. To do this, I use my Clarisonic Mia 2. I got this as a Christmas present last year, and totally fell in love with it. It cleans my face so well, smooths out any rough patches and exfoliates my skin. Using it feels like you’re having a professional facial, and it makes the experience SO relaxing.

Self Massage

Self massage, or abhyanga in Ayurvedic practices, is the practice of massing yourself using oils or lotions to promote a feeling of calm and balance. It’s up to you what you use, whether it’s natural oils such as sesame or olive (these are popular in Ayurveda), essential oils, or just your favourite body lotion. You could also take the time to incorporate another Ayurvedic practice into your spa night by using a dry body brush before you start your massage.

Facial Steam

Doing a facial steam is another great way to take care of yourself on an at home spa night. You can use a bowl of hot water, or invest in a professional facial steamer. You can mix many ingredients into the water such as essential oils e.g. lavender or tea tree, or you could put in fresh herbs and spices, or even some pretty flowers such as rose petals to make it more special.

Enjoy your spa nights!

Lots of love,

Natalie
